2010, August, WAB Orientation Day

I first met Sid at WAB orientation day in 2010, we were to start Grade 6 together the next week. Our conversation was obviously so awkward, we were both 11 and it was our first time meeting. Manny was there too (though I doubt he remembers). To think that day, almost 14 years ago, would be the start of an incredible friendship makes me smile today.
(Sadly no photos, we didn’t really take photos back then)

2011, August, Embassy House Gaming

The next year, almost exactly a year after meeting, Myself, Sid, Philippe, Arjun and Caleb were spent the whole night playing call of duty and minecraft. I remember the famous quote at 2am, “oooooh just one more game”, we ended up playing till 6am.

2013, The Dancemobile

In 2013, also at Embassy House, we got up to another night of trouble. In my opinion Sancho was the biggest culprit, then Sid, then Me. Just saying. But at the end of the day it was us 3 that were up to no good, whilst having the time of our lives. On a key-note, we grabbed a speaker, started playing classic 2010’s Techno Music, wrote dancemobile on a little piece of paper, stuck it to a luggage trolley then pushed it round the Embassy House Lobby, while laughing. Sancho was dancing in the middle while Sid and I pushed. That night we also ding dong ditched a bunch of neighbors, and left silly notes (of which the contents need to not be described), underneath other neighbors doors. Of which was the turning point, the neighbors complained and we got in trouble.  My mum still brings it up 12 years later.

2015, Cooking in the kitchen

Sid used to come round to my house on the weekends and we would cook up new recipes together that I would find. We were making veggie burgers for my family friend who was visiting that weekend.  He was always down to do any activities and made everything fun. We spent the whole time laughing and making fun of each others cooking skills, and listening to music.

No picture story

I keep having this flashback. It was any other day me and Sid had together, although this one day he decided to take me to the gym with him to show me how to lift weights. Normally Sid and the other boys would train after school in the school gym in the hub. I told Sid that I found it intimidating, so he took me to the grand hills gym in the compound he lived in.  After feeling very silly, whilst Sid persistently told me not to be. I was done in the gym. As I was packing my bag he asked me if I wanted to check out the roof.  He took me through the corridors and up some stairs and we snuck through this window onto the roof of the club house.

The view was incredible, and you could see the park with the playground we used to play in.  It was a beautiful spring day and the sun was setting. Sid put on some music on his phone and we just talked about everything. Our plans for the future, how much we were both enjoying our lives in Beijing at the time, and how sad we both were that Sid would be moving at the end of the term.

This memory seems to keep playing in my mind, I think it’s because of all the plans we were both making for ourselves. Sid wanted to carry on doing well in school, apply for ivy leagues and become a successful entrepreneur. I had no idea what I wanted, I thought maybe something in media, definitely creative, but I hadn’t decided on film yet. I think back to this time because we both followed the paths we talked about and It still feels unfair to me that his path had to end so quickly.

2016, August, CSC Grand Opening

Sid is a Day 1 friend. Because we lived on the same floor/in the same House, we very literally met on the first night of my arrival at CSC. He thought I was obnoxious and bratty, and would not fail to remind me of this first impression.

2016, Nov, Suburban Hubei Province, Project Week DP1

This was after the first time Sid and I properly spoke. We were put into the same project week group but when we were sitting on the bus together,  I asked him, are you the Indian kid that speaks Mandarin? and he never responded. Not so long after in the same week, this photo has been taken.

2022, Feb 5, New York, Dressup at Sia's NYC apartment

Esther Sid and I were hanging out after a long day of work. Esther and I decided to play dress up and we suggested Sid try out a gender-neutral dress that I made. Sid did that as a good friend, in contrast to the slightly toxic masculinity that even exists in the creative world, and he was vibing in the fit. Esther and I are very impressed!

2018 October 27th DC Excursion

Sid introduced me to Rhea, one of my best friends from Georgetown. Freshman year the two of them took me to Bindaas to have Indian food- I honestly don’t remember if we got Bindaas this day or a different day, but the three of us were walking to the monuments and exploring our new city together.

2019 January 12 Liv/Cathy Visit

This video is of Sid with two of my closest friends from high school. They came to visit me at Georgetown in January of our freshman year and I was so excited to introduce them to Sid & all my Georgetown friends. It started snowing as we were walking

2019 September Copley Kitchen

Sophomore year, Sid and I were determined to try and cook our own food in Copley. Neither of us liked Leos (and he might not have been on a meal plan anymore). We both loved to cook so we tried to take advantage of the common room kitchen whenever we could. Pretty sure we stuck to the basics for most meals but it was a great 1-1 time that we had.

2021, May 8th – Sophia’s 21st

This was a memorable one. Two days before my 21st I went out with Sid, Grant and others. It was my first time going out in over a year because of covid and I ended up so turned off alcohol that I could barely drink 2 days later on my actual 21st. Didn’t matter because it was still such a special day of celebration with friends.

2019, March 19, A Rare Sighting of Sid in Class

Members: Sid, Tara
It was in March that I found out that Sid and I were in the same class together, Comparative Political Systems. This was the first and maybe last time I saw him in class. Regardless, on the day of our final exam, he walked out of the examination hall one hour early and got 100% on the exam. Legend.

Sid, our friends, and I began graduation festivities at a darty at a Village A rooftop, and then ended up going to Talal’s that night for darty-to-narty celebration. We danced so much.
